Halal slaughtering

Rose Poultry halal slaughters all poultry, as do other Danish poultry abattoirs. This is explained by our many decades of success with exports to Muslim countries, where halal slaughtering is required. As we do not know at the point of slaughter where the produce will be marketed, it is simplest to halal slaughter all of our production.

Slaughtering should, according to the law, be attended by an employee who ensures that the animal does not suffer. At Danish abattoirs, these employees are Muslims. When the slaughtering begins and each time there is a break, the Muslim supervisor asks a blessing for himself in a prayer which translates: ‘In God's name. Allah is the greatest.’

The prayer is in practice the only difference between halal and ordinary slaughtering. The process is carried out in compliance with our legislation, hanging the poultry so that the head passes through a current conducting bath which stuns the chicken to unconsciousness. Then both neck arteries are cut, either manually or with a rotating knife. They die quickly in a state of unconsciousness.

The extra cost of export certificates to the Muslim countries is carried by the importer.
